Born Joseph Scott Beauchamp, he was raised in Wisconsin where he attended Rufus King International High School. He later enrolled at Iowa State University where he played collegiate football. Signed as a non drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 1966, he totaled 117 career regular season games. In 1972, he set a then franchise record with 3 interceptions in one game against the Denver Broncos. Beauchamp totaled 23 career interceptions and in 1968, he led the league with 2 interceptions returned for touchdowns.
