Frieda Blizzard, 89

Frieda (Read) Blizzard, 89, passed away quietly Wednesday morning, August 15, 2007, at Randolph Nursing Home in Winchester.

She was born March 2, 1918, to Fred and Bertha Read of Union City, Ind., and she spent her lifetime in the Union City community. She was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church; Union City Women's Republican Club, where she served as president, second vice president and vice county chairman; the National Safety Council and the Hoover Committee. Frieda had been administrative superintendent of Wayne Township Sunday School Association; a graduate and instructor of Dale Carnegie Institute; served as vice president of Women of the Church, and President of Daughter of Reformation. She was a member of the National Association of Postmasters; assistant sales manager of Charles W. Rice & Company; and served 19 years as manager in the office of Dr. Fred Ruby. In the local BPW Club she served as president, second vice president and other offices. On the State level of BPW she served as district governor two years and was active on numerous committees. She was secretary to the district governor of Rotary International, to President of Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology; was fund chairman for the Red Cross; chairman of the Girl Scout Committee; Sunday School teacher; chairman of the Church Building Fund; charter member of U.C. Hospital Guild; and served 19 years at the Post Office, including an acting postmaster.

She is survived by: three sisters, Evelyn Fosnight of Union City, Ind., Margaret Lowe of Richmond and Anna Barga (husband, Jim) of Greenville, Ohio; and a brother, Fred Read (wife, Alberta) of Union City, Ind. She was preceded in death in 1982 by her husband, Donald Blizzard and by a sister, Mary Coppess (2000).

A service to celebrate Frieda's life will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Bonnie Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in the Union City Cemetery. Family and friends may gather to share and remember one hour prior to service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, SR 28 & 800 E., Union City, Ind. 47390. Fraze-Brooks Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
