Laban was the son of Laban and Sophia Shipp Sebree. Laban was born most likely in Woodford County, Kentucky and had at least seven brothers and sisters. Laban married Miranda B. Edwards, the daugher of Rev. John and Narcissa Shipp Edwards. Laban's mother and Miranda's mother were
sister's, so this made them first cousins. The Edwards family moved to Missouri about 1828. Laban and several others of his sibblings moved about the same time into this surrounding area. Laban and his brother Edmund were tailors by trade. Laban and Miranda held a land patent for eighty acres close to the Hackberry Ridge Cemetery and Miranda's parents owned the ajoining property Laban and Miranda never had children of their own.
