Cause of Death: Run Over by an Intoxicated Driver

Joseph Awaida, his wife Raihan and their 3 year old son Omar were critically injured in the collision along Country Club Drive near Los Cerritos Park.
Surveillance video shows the family walking when a 2002 Toyota Sequoia driven by 20 year old Carlo Navarro who was driving under the influence came from behind them, jumped the curb and tragically hit them. The car continued, carrying the victims for about a half a block, crashing through a drinking fountain and small mesh utility boxes. At least 2 of the victims ended up trapped under the car. Joseph, Raihan and Omar were rushed to the hospital.
Joseph died in hospital Friday night.

Carlo Navarro was arrested on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of intoxicants.
