PIGEON CREEK ITEMS: Mrs. Virginia Jernigan Dead; News came over the wire early on Monday morning, January 8th of the death of Mrs. Virginia Jernigan at her home 12 miles southeast of Greenville, influenza being the cause. Here she had lived for more than 65 years. She was born in Georgia and came to Alabama with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Florence, when a little girl. They, settled at Midway here she joined the Missionary Baptist Church when thirteen and at the age of sixteen, was happily married to Mr. George Huguley, To this union one child, a son Mr. Henry Lee Huguley was born, Mr. Huguley was a gallant Confederated soldier and was killed early in the Civil War, and was buried at Greenville. In 1864 Mr. David P. Jernigan and Mrs, Huguley were married while Mr, Jernigan was home on a furlough from the army. Of this union eight surviving: Messrs., Charles, James T., children were born, four of them surving David and Miss. Maggie Jernigan, of Luverne. Mr. Charles Jernigan now resides in Texas; Mrs. Huguley jrined Sardis church in 1858 by letter and has been a conisstent member since that time. She was a good, woman, loyal to her church. The Lord richly blessed her, and she gave lberally of her substance to His work. She always took time her Bible, and her home was ever open to the ministers and friend that is a delight to those who know her. The Advocate was in her home since the Civil War, and she always read her church, papers. Me-thinks I ask hear her ask that 11 Timothy be read, 6 to 8th verses: "For I am now ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought, a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day: And not me only, but unto all them also that love His offering. Interment was made at Sardis Church at four in the afternoon of January 8th, conducted by her pastor, Rev. W. T. Davidson.
