Walburga “Wally” Ehrhardt Brownell, 80, of Morristown, TN passed away surrounded by family at home on January 25, 2019.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Monday, January 28th at 11:00 a.m. with family receiving friends from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. The church is located at 2518 W. Andrew Johnson Hwy, Morristown, TN. Rev. Patrick Brownell will be officiating.

Graveside interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee Monday at approx. 4:00 p.m.

Mrs. Brownell was born July 27, 1938 in Bad Bergzabern, Germany to the late Jakob and Maria Wien Ehrhardt. She married Paul Brownell of Newbury – Berkshire, England on December 27, 1959 in Bad Bergzabern, Germany. Paul and Wally have spent over 59 years devoted to each other. Together they have 3 children. Rev. Patrick Brownell (Morristown, TN), Michelle (Brian) Thompson (Alpharetta, GA), Christina (Shane) Barron of Auburn, Alabama. She had four grandchildren, Bruce Thompson, Brian Thompson (Alpharetta, GA), Alexandra Barron, Austin Barron (Auburn, AL).

Mrs. Brownell was an exemplary homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was ever devoted to her Catholic faith her entire life. She served on the Holy Family Church Altar Guild and as a Pink Lady Volunteer at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA.

Mr. and Mrs. Brownell retired to Columbus, Georgia in 1976 after 21 years as an Army family. It is here that they raided their children before retiring to Morristown, Tennessee in 2016, where they were warmly welcomed at Saint Patrick Catholic Church.

Survivors include, loving husband, Paul, their three children and four grandchildren; her sister, Gertrude Ehrhardt Zedler (Jurgen) Bad Bergzabern, Germany; niece, Bettina Klesen-Zedler (Mattias); Erika Zander Henzmann (Bad Bergzabern); nephew, Hardy Zander (Bad Bergzabern); sisters-in-laws, Dawn Crable Brownell (Ellerslie, GA), Judy Kay Newton, (Willets, CA); brother-in-law, Jesse (Sherry) Maynard (Olympia, Washington).

Mrs. Brownell is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Hermann Ehrhardt; sisters, Elisabeth “Liesel” Ehrhardt and Helene Ehrhardt – Zander; mother-in-law, Phyllis Maynard; brothers-in-laws, Roland Maynard, Carl Brownell, Jason Maynard; sisters-in-laws, Pearl Maynard, Lucy Brownell.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to: St. Patrick Catholic Church Maintenance Fund (Morristown, TN) and/or to the Hamblen County Humane Society.

The family would like to express gratitude to Mrs. Brownell’s numerous caregivers, Dr. Peter Sutherland of Morristown and UT Hospital (CVICU) of Knoxville.
