METROPOLIS, III. - James O. "Oney" Steele, 72, of Metropolis, died Tuesday at 1:55 a.m. at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Metropolis, where he was a member. The Rev. Louis Brinker will officiate. Burial will be in Massac Memorial Gardens, with full military rites.
Surviving are his wife, June Beckman Steele; one son, James Steele of Metropolis; one daughter, Suzanne Haynes of Caruthersville, Mo.; one sister, Mary Harris of Paducah, and four grandchildren.
Four brothers and one sister preceded him in death. His parents were John H. and Josephine Lynn Steele.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church in Metropolis.
