Actor. His best known acting roles were as 'Captain Wilton Parmenter' in the 1960's comedy television series "F Troop," and as 'Sam Jones' in the 1960s situation comedy series "Andy Griffith Show" and "Mayberry R.F.D." He also starred in the late 1980's comedy series "Mama's Family" in the dual role of 'Vinton and Carl Harper.' He began his early career as a dancer, performing across the United States and Europe while serving in the United States Army. Following military service he moved to California where he took a job performing in a Cabaret Theater before taking a job as part of The Billy Barnes Revue from 1958 to 1964. He appeared in a recurring role on "Dr. Kildare" before being cast in the series "F Troop" which lasted two seasons. Following the cancellation of "Mayberry R.F.D." in the early 1970s, he appeared on a number of variety shows including: "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour," "The Jim Nabors Hour," "The Carol Burnett Show" and as a comedy headliner in Las Vegas. Following his career in television he returned to his love of theater, performing at various venues around the country. His motion picture film credits include "Two for the Seesaw" (1962), "Hello Down There" (1969), "Herbie Rides Again" (1974), and "The Cat from Outer Space" (1978). His notable guest television appearances include roles on "Burke's Law," "Combat," "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "Twelve O'Clock High," "Love, American Style," "Medical Center," "Fantasy Island," "The Golden Girls," "Little House on the Prairie," "Ellery Queen," "Chips" and "The Love Boat," "Mama's Family."
