Herbert Cheney Jr. entered into rest at Sheep Springs Ranch on July 19, 2018. The ranch was his most favorite place. He was always there during his seasonal job as a cowboy-ranch hand. He was born on July 12, 1965 to the Late Annie White Bond and the Late Herbert Cheney Sr. in Whiteriver, AZ.
Herbert grew up in Upper East Fork, A Wo Shi yeaa~~. He was the only man in the family of five. He attended the East Fork Mission School, Seven Mile Elementary and Alchesay High School up to the 9th grade. As young as he was, he then went to work as a cowboy with his cousin, the Late Ranno White, from whom he learned a lot. He enjoyed the sports of basketball and riding bulls, and did compete as a bull rider. He was also employed as a Custodian for the Cibecue Community School for many years when he lived in Cibecue with his family. He was a logger as well with Mike Holl, Jaggo Logging and other logging companies. But working with the cowboys as a Ranch Hand, riding horses and living at the ranch was his favorite way of life.
Herbert is survived by his six children: Norbert Mitch Cheney, Gilbert Cheney, Phil Burdette, Telbert Cheney, Herberta Cheney and Norwin Cheney; four sisters: June Cheney Palmer, Jennifer Cheney Quintero, Merceleen Bond and Joyce (Richard) Yazzie; sixteen grandchildren and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Annie White Bond and his father: Herbert Cheney Sr.
A Wake will be held on Thursday, August 2nd, 2018 at 10:00 am at Coyote Springs Road # 15 in East Fork, AZ. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday August 4th, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the East Fork Riverside Church in East Fork, AZ. Interment will be at the Dove Street Cemetery in East Fork, AZ.
