AGE: 80 • Metuchen

Margaret M. Cammarano, 80, of Metuchen, passed away Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 at her home. Born in Staten Island, she graduated from St. John Villa Academy, Staten Island. She resided in Metuchen for the past 56 years. She was a communicant of St. Francis Cathedral, a founding member of the Council of Catholic Women at St. Francis, a member of the Altar-Rosary Society, RCIA, and taught CCD for 20 years. She was active on the PTA for both St. Francis and the Metuchen Public school systems. Her most passionate work was as an advisor to the parish and diocesan CYO youth groups, where many young people were drawn to Margaret because of her unconditional acceptance, her sincerity in treating them as equals, and for her willingness to speak openly and honestly about nearly anything. Margaret was also known for always having an open heart and door; friends and strangers alike were always welcome to sit around her kitchen table to laugh, tell stories and hear her honest advice.

She is predeceased by her daughter, Peggy Philips (d.2004); her granddaughter, Amie Cammarano (d.2008); brothers, Michael, Reverend Leon (OFM), Charles, and William Dicks, and her sister, Adelaide Burke. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Deacon Frank Cammarano; six sons, Frank and his wife Debbie of Everett WA (and their children Heather, Jason, Staci, Brian and their families); Michael and his wife Marie of Willows, CA; John of Burlington, VT; Joseph and Linda (Hartley) of Rumford RI; Leon and his wife Dawn of Metuchen; and Peter and his wife Diane of Metuchen; two daughters, Theresa Lewallen of Alexandria, VA; Maryanne Moyers and her husband Dwayne of Stafford, VA; son-in-law, Peter Philips of Metuchen; three brothers, Joseph Dicks of Staten Island; Vincent Dicks of Lakewood and Thomas Dicks of Staten Island; two sisters, Mary Magnuski of Staten Island and Kay Adinolfi of Naples, FL; 12 grandchildren, Jonathan, Michael, Megan, Peter, Danielle, Erin, Tyler, Anthony, Mitchell, Joseph, Nicholas and Noelle.

Visitation is Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave (Rt.27) Metuchen. A Mass of The Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral in Metuchen. Interment is at Hillside Cemetery, Metuchen.
