Maga’låhi Chelef helped to sabotage and dislodge the invaders and overcome their more powerful weapons.
In 1676, Chelef lured some Spanish soldiers into his boat. When in deeper waters, he rocked and overturned the boat. Chelef swam away to safety, defeating the Spaniards.
He was on the radar of the Spanish governor for two years, until he was captured at Malesso (Merizo) in 1678. He was executed immediately by Spanish captain, Don Juan Antonio de Salas.
