William White was born in 1784 in the Southern District of Halifax County, Virginia, a son of Charles and Milly White.

He removed to Rockingham County, North Carolina with his widowed mother and his siblings by 1800.

In January 1801, "William White orphan of Charles White" deceased chose Milly White his guardian, who was also appointed guardian of "Elizabeth, Sukey, Benjamin, Robert and Charles White, orphans of the said Charles White deceased" with Hutchins Burton and Elias White her securities.

On 7 September 1807, William White witnesses the deed of William Trainum from Richard Smith, abutting Reuben Tyler, Richard Thomas and Vincent Wheeler for 100 acres of land on London Creek in Rockingham County, North Carolina. The deed was proved at the November 1808 court session by William White.

William White married Sarah Tyler in 1807 in Rockingham County, North Carolina.

The family relocated to Logan County (present-day Simpson County), Kentucky in 1811 and to Sumner County, Tennessee in 1814.

Farmer with extensive acreage along the Summers Branch of the Red River in Districts 18, 19 and 20 (later included in Civil District 16) west of Richland Station (present-day Portland).

His residence was situated northeast of the junction of present-day New Deal Potts Road with Payne Road.

His farm was gradually subdivided among his sons.

He died in 1869 (between 7 June 1869 and 19 August 1870).
