John Cook, 89, of Stacy, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport.

His funeral service will be held 11:00 am Friday, June 30, 2017 at Atlantic Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Adam Self, Rev. Paul Harris, and Rev. Jimmy Mercer officiating. Interment will follow at Stacy Community Cemetery.

John proudly served 27 years in the United States Navy and worked over 20 years with Civil Service. He had 2 years education as a minister and served as a chaplain as well as being a Deacon at Atlantic Missionary Baptist Church. John was devoted to his family, faithful to our country and sought after the Lord in his daily walk.

John is survived by his wife, Ida Pearl Cook of the home; sons, Johnny S. Cook, Sr. and wife Barbara, Joseph A. "Al " Cook, and George N. Cook and wife Teresa, all of Stacy; grandchildren, Nathan, Johnny Cook, Jr., Sally Reubens, Stephanie Smith, Joey Cook, Jr., Hannah Cook, and George Cook, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Cole, Cooper, Autumn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth Cook; sisters, Eleanor Prunty, and Marie Johnson.
