VIRGINIA BEACH - George N. Barnard, 55, of 1564 First Colonial Road died Tuesday in a hospital.


A native of Currituck, N.C., he was a son of Mrs. Hattie Barnard and the late Charles H. Barnard and the husband of Mrs. Annie Barnard.


He was a member of Lynnhaven Baptist Church and its male chorus and senior choir. He was employed by Country Day School for Girls.


Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Charles Barnard of Norfolk and John Barnard of Virginia Beach; four daughters, Mrs. Bernice Bertha, Miss Ernestine Barnard, and Miss Cleopatra Barnard of Virginia Beach and Mrs. Juanita Diggs of Naples, Italy; three brothers, Charles Barnard, Emmett Barnard, and James Barnard of Virginia Beach; four sisters, Mrs. Hattie Owens, Mrs. Mary Tucker, and Mrs. Doris Braye of Virginia Beach and Mrs. Maion Grimstead of New York; and eight grandchildren.


A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Lynnhaven Baptist Church by the Rev. E. Ray Cox. Burial will be in Jones Memorial Park with Hairston Funeral Home in charge.
