Eugene "Billy" Thorn, age 88, of Williamson, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Monday,
April 24, 2017, from his home following a lingering illness.

Born November 24, 1928, in Raleigh, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Cassell Eugene and Ella Mae Thorn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Gray Thorn, son, Jerome Thorn, daughters, Barbara Heard and Delores Thorn, brother, Ben Thorn, and sister, Hattie Fleshman.

Eugene was a Veteran having served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired coal miner from Eastern Coal Company, a former Mr. King Coal, and a member of the U.M.W.A.. He served as president of the Liberty High School Reunion Committee and was a member of the former St. James A.M.E. Church in Williamson where he served as a Deacon and Treasurer. Following the closure of St. James A.M.E., he became a member of the Logan Street First Baptist Church. Eugene was a member of the Williamson Crown Lodge #16. He served in numerous positions in the lodge, and he was later elected Worship Master. He did many masonic duties within the lodge, and at the time of his passing he was serving as the lodge chaplain.

Survivors include his sons, Carl Ervin Thorn of West Germany, Eugene "Junior" (Judy) Thorn of Williamson, adopted son, Eugene Thorn III of Cincinnati, adopted son, Stephen Thorn of Wheeling, W.Va., his daughter, Devonna Thorn of Williamson, 1 sister, Emma Edwards of Indianapolis, IN, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday; April 29, 2017 at noon from the Logan Street First Baptist Church in Williamson, W.Va., with Rev. Gerald Dotson, Pastor officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky. with military honors to be presented by the DAV Chapter 141 of Belfry, Ky.

Pallbearers will be family members. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Williamson Crown Lodge #16: Carl Johnson, Worship Master.

Viewing will be from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service on Saturday at the Logan Street First Baptist Church.
