He attended Fonde Church of God Mountain Assembly. He was an avid gardener and fisherman. He loved working on cars, woodworking and pestering his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Tracy, Ancil, and Charles “Pebo” Henderson, and by his sister, Beulah Chavis.

His wife of 65 years, Shirley Henderson; children, Patricia (Bobby) Hurst, Larry (Bonnie) Henderson, Alan (Ruth) Henderson, Danny (Karen) Henderson, and Jeff (Teresa) Henderson; brothers, Ronnie Henderson, Gene Henderson, Wayne Henderson, and Joe Henderson; sisters, Katherine Waldroop, Evelyn Patterson, Virgie Coker, and Betty Claxton; and 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
