He met and shared the last 19 years of his earthly life with his wife, Judy Irving. He was also self-employed in a recycling and demolition company throughout Waller County and in 2013, was elected to the Waller City Council becoming the first minority to serve in one of the five City Council seats, where he served as Mayor Pro-Tem until illness prevented him. He was re-elected in 2015.
He departed this life on March 31, 2017 at the Houston Methodist St. Catherine Hospital in Katy, Texas. Preceded in death by both parents; son, Sidney (Sid) Johnson; grandparents, Ethel Bailey and T.H. Bailey.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Irving Johnson; six children: Tiffany (Randy) Mayfield, Shonital Mayes, Cody Johnson, Jerrell Johnson, Latoya Johnson, and Hurbbie Irving; two sisters: Evelyn (Larry) and Nicole (Carvis); two brothers: Esley Lewis and Melvin Johnson; eight grandchildren and a special friend he called his sister, Catherin Singleton Perry, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, April 7, 2017, from 6pm-8pm at the Impact Church, 2611 Washington Street, Waller, Texas.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Bailey Chapel Church of God in Christ at 12pm, located at 3004 Sledge Street, Waller, Texas. Interment followed at the Oakwood Cemetery in Hempstead, Texas.
