George Bruton
D-U 22 Oct 1929
George Bruton of this county passed to the silent tomb at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Lee, in North Lawrenceburg, October 7, 1929, at the age of 86 years. He was laid to rest in the Spann Cemetery, in the western part of Lawrence County, where his wife has slept a number of years. Funeral services were conducted at the grave by Sherman Kelly, local minister of the Christian Church.
Mr. Bruton and his family were members of this church for many years. A large number of friends and relatives gathered at the grave to pay the last tribute of respect.
Mr. Bruton leaves four children, two sons and two daughters, and a number of grandchildren, and a large number of friends, to mourn his departure.
He was born in Bedford County 86 years ago and was known as one of our most respected pioneer citizens, who served about three years in the Federal Army during the sixties, being honorably discharged at the close of the Civil War in 1865.
One by one, our old soldiers are passing over to the other side. But we are glad to say to his children and loved ones, your aged father was a soldier of honor, a clean citizen, and last but not least, a Christian gentleman. Therefore, your sorrow cannot help being mingled with joy. And too, when we learn through the Master's will, there'll be a happy reunion over there in the age to come, no more sorrow, no more sad goodbyes, so we should not grieve as though there were no hope.
A Friend to the Family, C. C. Kelley
