Additional information provided by Rod Williams: Pvt Peter Georg Heinrich Johannes Alexander was only 17 when he joined the Wisconsin 6th Regiment volunteer infantry. He had to have his father's permission to join at that age. He joined along with his brother John Alexander, and Stackhouse cousins visiting from Pennsylvania. Peter's brother John was killed at Antietam. Peter was involved in a battle at Ft. Blakely, Alabama three days after the war had ended. They had no information of the war's end. Peter was shot and had his right arm amputated. He was on his way home to Wisconsin when he caught Typhoid and died in the military hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Peter immigrated from Germany and arrived in America in 1850, along with other members of his immediate family accompanied by aunts, uncles, and cousins.
