SP4 John David Keel, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Robersonville, NC.

Specialist Four John David Keel was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, SP4 Keel served our country until January 27th, 1969 in Log An, South Vietnam. He was 21 years old and was not married. It was reported that John died from small arms fire or grenade. His body was recovered. John was born on November 10th, 1947 in Robersonville, North Carolina. SP4 Keel is on panel 33W, line 002 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.

We were drafted at the same time. I had known John for along time because we work on the farm together. He was a funny and happy person, I will always miss him. The first day at Ft Bragg we had to fill out these papers and I had been married for only 11 months. As I filled out the papers tears began to run down my face and John leaned over and said it's only 2 years we will make it home. I will remember that the rest of my life. Because I made it home and John didn't. When John got to Vietnam I had been there for a few months. So he got my address and wrote to me, so we wrote back forth to each other. Just before Christmas of 1968, he wrote and said they were going on patrol and would write me when he got back, I never got any more mail from him. I came home on January 14, 1969. Then in a few days found out that he had been killed. I still have questions, but I will never know the answers to. John you were a good friend, and still are in mind and heart. To his family, I say that I am sorry for their loss. He was a good man and friend. God bless each of you. Bobby Williams, [email protected].

He is my brother. John gave his life that we may stay free. I know he is in Heaven with his mother. God bless you both. Hilton Keel Jr, [email protected].

He served with Alpha Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 199th Infantry Brigade, USARV.

He was awarded The Silver Star Medal for Valor, The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
