SERVICES HELD SUNDAY FOR MRS. EMMA ADDINGTON
Funeral services were held in Cedarville Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Emma
Addington, 91, who passed away Friday, June 25, in the hospital in Cedarville
following a long illness. Rev. Ralph Conard officiated at the services.
Mrs. Addington had spent much of her time during the last few years at the
home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Theta Adams, in Cedarville.

"Grandma" Addington, as she was known to her many, many, friends, had spent
the greater part of her life in Surprise Valley, where she raised her family
and watched Cedarville grow from one store and a few homes to the thriving
community it is today.

The oldest of a family of 11 children, Emma Schaffer was born December 27,
1862, in Germany, coming to this country with her parents at the age of eight
months. She came as a pioneer to Surprise Valley in 1878 at the age of 16
years.

In 1880 she was married to Joseph William Addington and to them were born 13
children. Of that family eight are still living: Lizzie Metzker, Josie
Kimball and Leslie Addington of Alturas; Henry Addington and Clara Dollarhide
of Cedarville; Louise Dollarhide and Frank Addington of Eagleville; and Oren
Addington of Smartsville. Her husband, Joseph, preceded her in death 43
years ago, June 26, 1911.

Besides these sons and daughters she is survived by 38 grandchildren; 92
great grandchildren, and 29 great, great grandchildren. Only one sister,
Mrs. Hattie Edmondson of Reno, remains. There are also several nieces and
nephews and a host of friends made through the years to mourn her passing.
