Henrietta Kathryn VanKanegan, 94, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, at Autumn Hills Care Center of Niles, where she had been residing for the past two years.

She was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Montrose, S.D., a daughter of Gertrude Schipper and Rients Agema.

Formerly of Minnesota, Mrs. VanKanegan was a 1941 graduate of Kinsman High School. She became a registered nurse and served in the Army’s Cadet Nurse program.

On Dec. 15, 1943, she married Roy W. VanKanegan.
Mrs. VanKanegan, who was a wonderful hostess, was there to lend a hand on the family’s farm. She attended the Kinsman Presbyterian Church and enjoyed baking, knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include four daughters, Joan E. (Myron) Robinson of Palm Coast, Fla., Diane L. (B. J. Bullock) Latronica of Niles, Brenda J. (Jon Peterson) VanKanegan of Skamokawa, Wash., and Nancy D. Charles of Niles; a son, Roy W. (Susan) VanKanegan of Howland; two sisters, Catherine Taylor of Lake Worth, Fla., and Cornelia (James) Porter of Kirkland; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Eleanor VanKanegan.

Mrs. VanKanegan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of almost 70 years, Roy. W. VanKanegan Sr., who died on March 8, 2013; a son, Thomas VanKanegan; a grandson, Gregory Scott Phillips; and two brothers, John Agema and Dick Agema.

A private service will take place and burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery.
