Roy W. VanKanegan, 90, died Friday, March 8, 2013, in Cortland.

He was born Jan. 28, 1923, in South Holland, Ill., the son of Esther Lillie Diekman and Cornelius Frank VanKanegan.

Mr. VanKanegan served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and in the Battle of Luzon.
On Dec. 15, 1943, he married Henrietta Kathryn Agema.

He was a lifelong self-employed dairy farmer.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Henrietta K. VanKanegan of Kinsman; four daughters, Joan E. (Myron) Robinson of Palm Coast, Fla., Diane L. (B.J. Bullock) Latronica of Niles, Brenda J. (Jon Peterson) VanKanegan of Portland, Ore., and Nancy D. Charles of Niles; a son, Roy W. (Susan) VanKanegan Jr. of Howland; a daughter-in-law, Eleanor R. VanKanegan of Kinsman; a sister, Esther L. (Elmer) White of San Pierre, Ind.; a brother, Willis Q. (Sharon) VanKanegan of Kinsman; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Mr. VanKanegan was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Thomas VanKanegan; a grandson, Gregory Scott Phillips; and three brothers, Eugene, Clarence and Victor VanKanegan.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family, and burial will be in Kinsman Cemetery.
