Carole Ashmore Martin
Oct 16, 1941 - Dec 13, 2016

Carole Ashmore Martin, age 75, of Powder Springs, Georgia, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 13, 2016. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and true friend to many.

Carole was born at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, of the late Robert Evans Ashmore and Dorothy Ann Barfield Ashmore. Mrs. Martin is survived by her husband of 54 years, Rudolph Peter (“R.P.”) Martin; her sister Jean Ashmore Veltri; and her children: Teresa Martin Culclasure and her husband, Talley Felder Culclasure; and Greg Lee Martin and his wife, Heidi Rembach Martin; three grandchildren: Alexa Christine Culclasure; Emmie Rebecca Culclasure; and Jacob Talley Culclasure; a niece, Katie Veltri and a nephew, Christopher Veltri and many cherished cousins.

Mrs. Martin was raised in Atlanta and moved to White Plains, New York, where she graduated from high school and attended Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia. Carole returned to Atlanta and worked in the Registrar’s office at Georgia Tech where she met the love of her life. On October 25, 1962, Carole Ann Ashmore married R.P. Martin at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Atlanta, Georgia. After the birth of their daughter, Teresa, the family moved to Burlington, North Carolina where their son, Greg, was born. Carole enjoyed being a stay at home mom, raising her children through middle school before moving to Spartanburg, South Carolina. The time in Spartanburg was a memorable for Carole as she served as the pastor’s secretary at St Christopher’s Episcopal Church for many years and was active in St John’s Lutheran Church. Once empty nesters, Carole and R.P. returned to Burlington, North Carolina. Carole joined Holt Manufacturing and remained a valued employee until her retirement. After Greg suffered a spinal cord injury, R.P. retired early and became a caregiver to assist Greg and allow Heidi to continue to work. After Carole retired, they moved to the Atlanta area permanently to be close to their children, grandchildren and to enjoy their retirement years. Active in her community of Powder Springs, Carole was a member of the F.A.N. Club, and she enjoyed being part of the bunco group and bridge club.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, on Friday December 16 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home located 3940 Macland Road, Powder Springs, Georgia. There will be a reception from 6:00 to 6:30 followed by a memorial service at 6:30 pm at the funeral home officiated by nephew, Gary Franklin, of New Jersey. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 on Sunday, December 18 at Alamance Memorial Park, 4039 South Church Street in Burlington, North Carolina officiated by Pastor Goeres of Macedonia Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the American Cancer Society with designation to lung cancer research or Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue, Inc. to honor Carole’s much beloved Mindy (“Sweetie”).
