Beauford Gibson, 64, of South Piney Mountain Road, Whittier, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at Mountain Trace Nursing Center after a period of declining health.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26, in the chapel of Melton-Riddle Funeral Home with the Revs. Pat Farmer, Larry Nations and Charles Carnes officiating. Burial was in Barkers Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Bennett, Travis Gibson, Brandon Gibson, Randy Williamson, Dustin Williamson and Johnny King. Honorary pallbearers were David Dalton, Roy Dalton, Bobby Joe Revis and Jim Gibson.

A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he worked at Drexel Furniture and was a member of Dicks Creek Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Dock and Rosie Elders Gibson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eddie Marie Bennett Gibson, who died in 2003; one son, Curtis Gibson; one sister, Cora Helen Williamson; and two brothers, Howard and Jesse Gibson.

Surviving are two daughters, Gail Broom of Tuckasegee and Glenda Brooks of Sylva; two sons, Scotty Gibson of Franklin and Tracy Gibson of Sylva; two foster sisters, Bonnie Gibson and Birdell Brown, both of Sylva; and three grandchildren.
