Canton - Evelyn Nana Galloway Chambers, 89, of Canton, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2005, at her residence.

She was born on Sept. 24, 1915, to the late Stephen Wiley and Sadie Viola Davis Galloway. She was a devoted servant and member of Sunny Point Baptist Church. She retired after teaching in the Haywood County school system for 46 years. Although she had no biological children of her own, she was a mother figure to all the children she came in contact with throughout her long career in vocational and religious affiliations to include the following seven churches: Riverside Baptist Church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Spring Hill Baptist Church, Sunny Point Baptist Church, Crabtree Baptist Church, Antioch Baptist Church, and Ratcliffe Cove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Gay Edward Chambers; brother, Fred Galloway; and infant sister, Joy Ann Galloway.

She is survived by two brothers, Davis Galloway and his wife, Virginia, of Waynesville and Roy Galloway and his wife, Linda, of Newport, Tenn.; four very special nieces and nephews, Janet Galloway Nichols, Randy Galloway, Scott Galloway and Tammy Galloway Hash. She also has two nephews and a niece, Kenny Galloway, Davis "Bo" Galloway Jr. and Sue Galloway Culpepper; six special great-nieces and nephews, Jason Lee Tramper, James Galloway, Jacob Nichols, Jovi Nichols, Brynne Hash and Paige Galloway.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Sunny Point Baptist Church with the Rev. James Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Garrett Funerals and Cremations.

Burial will be in Sunny Point Baptist Church Cemetery with Randy Galloway, Earl Hannah, Jim Hash, Scott Galloway, Jason Tilley, and David Smith serving as pallbearers.
