Ruth Kammerzell

March 5, 1917-June 9, 2017

Residence: Greeley

Ruth Kammerzell, 100, of Greeley, died Friday, June 9, 2017, at TRU Hospice of Northern Colorado inpatient unit. She enjoyed living at the Bridge Assisted Living in Greeley for the past four years. She was born on March 5, 1917, in Brush, Colo., to Conrad and Katherine (Reider) Lebsock.

Ruth grew up in various communities in northern Colorado. She graduated from Platteville High School in 1935. On April 3, 1938, she married John Kammerzell in Milliken at the German Congregational Church. He died on Sept. 26, 2010. While they were members of the Congregational Church, Ruth played the piano and taught Sunday school for 25 years. They were members of the Milliken Presbyterian Church for many years, where Ruth played piano for Sunday school. She also served as Sunshine chairman and as a Deacon and sang in the church choir. She was also a pianist for the German Gospel Program that broadcast each Sunday afternoons on KFKA. The group sang German hymns. Ruth enjoyed activities at the Milliken Senior Citizen Center.

John and Ruth bought their farm east of Milliken and farmed there for 45 years. They retired from farming in 1982 and moved to Greeley. In 2015, Ruth was honored at a high school reunion for her 80th anniversary of graduation.

Ruth's passions included flower gardening and sewing. She loved all her children and was very generous. Ruth enjoyed being a grandmother and hosting slumber parties for her grandchildren and their friends.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Dorothy (Jerry) Brethauer and Emma (Henry) Rosin both of Greeley; sons, Ed (Shirley) Kammerzell of Greeley and Al (Karen) Kammerzell of Milliken; grandchildren, Darrell and Janelle Brethauer, Lyn Mize, Diane and David Tallman, Linda and Mike Stone, Gary Rosin, Lori and Ty Herrington, Kathi and Abel Ramirez, Shari and Aaron Carmichael, Debbie and Justus Pettit, Jody and Cesar Urias and Terri and John Reyna; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 28th St., Greeley. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2017 at Milliken Presbyterian Church, 201 Olive Ave., Milliken. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3400 28th St., Greeley.
