Served in U.S. Navy and achieved rank of AMH1, with duty in Texas, Okinawa and Pennsylvania. Married Rebecca Briscoe on May 28, 1971 and was father of two sons, James Andrew and William Ryan. Grandfather to Rebecca Lee Sheehan. Loved the sea and fishing. Died at the hands of a drunk driver on Galveston Island, where he had been at port during an extended fishing trip. Cremated and as he had wanted, his ashes were consigned to the sea.
