Son of Lloyd Ellis and Flora Spratt, married Angeline Nelson 2/13/1867 in Boone County, West Virginia. Lived at Gilbert and their children were Ernest Ross, Zatt, Lora, Mary Virginia "Jinny", Lonnie, and Lilly.

Known as "Chap" Ellis, his full name seems to have been Wm. Chapman Ellis. Shown as Wm. in at least one record, his son Ernest's marriage record.
