Clark Howell, Jr. served as an officer in both World War I and World War II. He joined the staff of The Constitution as a reporter in 1919 and became the newspaper's publisher and president in 1936, serving in that capacity until 1960. He was appointed to the State Board of Regents in 1934 and became a member of the Associated Press Board of Directors in 1937.
