Miriam Hayes Blake ("Bama" / "Bommie"), 84, of Raleigh, went to be with her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on March 28, 2016. She was born on September 3, 1931 to Cecil Butler Hayes and Ruth Wheeler Hayes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winford Earle Blake and grandson, Jonathan Earl Sullivan.
Miriam was a long-time and faithful member of Mount Vernon Baptist and Friendship Baptist Church. She was a Proverbs 31 wife, mother, and grandmother with a selfless and giving heart who lived a life of faith and testimony to Christ.
She loved praying diligently for, and encouraging, others; being there for important milestones in the life of loved ones; Bible studies with friends; playing Canasta, Go Fish, and Old Maid; taking long walks; riding bikes at the beach; watching the Duke basketball team win national championships; eating chicken pot pie and chicken 'n dumplings; cooking for, and doing TV Land marathons with, her grandchildren; trips to Snoopy's and Tookies; good old country gospel music; tea parties with her granddaughters; and making beautiful memories for her family and friends.
She is survived by her two daughters, Nina Joan Blake Sullivan and Jeanne Ruth Blake Wendell; son-in-law, Russ Wendell; and grandchildren, Melissa Sullivan, Stephen Wendell, Ariana Wendell, and Abbey Wendell.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 1, 2016 starting at 1pm at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 7600 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh. A funeral service will be held at 2pm. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Transitions Lifecare (Hospice of Wake County), or to the family to cover funeral expenses.
