Marcialese Pike Mathews, "Marcie" to all who knew and loved her, passed away peacefully on November 1st, 2015 at Duke University Hospice Family Pavilion surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on October 18, 1936 in Huntsville, Alabama, the daughter of the late Henry Eugene and Cecil Ennis Pike.
For the past 58 years she has been the loving and dedicated wife to her husband Frank whom she met and fell in love with when they both were employed in the Human Resources Office of the U. S. Army Ballistic Missile Agency, Marcie in the agency's headquarters at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama and Frank in the agency's Missile Firing Laboratory at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Although separated by several hundred miles their romance blossomed and flourished, aided by visits, frequent correspondence and a super-abundance of long-distance telephone calls. They were married on September 14th, 1957 in Huntsville, Alabama.
Marcie always considered herself wonderfully blessed by being privileged to stay at home with the children after she and Frank started their family with the birth of their first child in 1959. She believed the parental love, influence and guidance that she was able to provide in their formative years contributed immeasurably to the wonderful adults they are today.
Marcie was a faithful member of the Brooks Avenue Church of Christ, Raleigh. Her bright disposition and sunny smile was a blessing to all with whom she came in contact. She will be missed by many.
She is pre-deceased by her brother, Wayburn; her sister, Betty Henderson and husband Jim.
Marcie is survived by her husband, Frank; three children, Butch Mathews (Sandy) of Roxboro, Candice Hess (Brian) of Cary, and Karen Carraway of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Lindsay Carver (Scott) of Roxboro, Kelsey Martin (Dusty) of Roxboro, Taylor Carraway of Raleigh, Connor Hess of Raleigh, and Sydney Hess of Raleigh; four great-grandchildren, Sophie Martin of Roxboro, Finley Carver of Roxboro, Pike Carver of Roxboro, and Oakes Martin of Roxboro; sister, Judy Foster (Bob) of Huntsville, Alabama.
