Full-blood Azorean Islands descendant: The last of four children born to William "Willie" Caton (also known in records as Portuguese translation "Gerurlherme Caetano") and Mary L. DeLuiz Cabral Caton in Provincetown, Barnstable County, Mass. Dorothy's father was a Provincetown native and fisherman; Her mother was a Portuguese immigrant from Santa Maria, Azores Islands; Dorothy's closest in age brother Manuel was born 17 Nov 1911, so her birth is soon after that date.

When her mother died, she and her brother Manuel, being too young for school or to help with work, were sent to orphanages, while the brothers Charles and James were sent to live with their aunt Anna Silva Bragg and her husband Capt. Joseph Bragg in Provincetown. Oldest sister, Marion, was sent for a time to an industrial school, but also lived for a time at the Bragg/Braga home. Dorothy married Eddie Bartlett and they raised two children. One child was born with physical disability, but was mentally sharp. Eddie preceded Dot in death. It is thought she lived in Mass., maybe the New Bedford area, until her death.
