Born May 20, 1906, in Webb, Mingo County, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Joseph and Nancy Jane Sammons Vinson.
He was a merchant, and operated Vinson Grocery on U. S. Route 52 in Nolan, Mingo County, West Virginia for several decades.
Survivors include his wife, Flora (nee Hall) Vinson; three sons, Harold L. Vinson of Nolan, Mingo County, West Virginia, and Freddie Joe Vinson of Nolan, Mingo County, West Virginia, and Ray Vinson Jr., of Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio; sister Mrs. Alva Vinson Smith of Nolan, Mingo County, West Virginia, and five grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at Weaver Mortuary, 1718 West Third Aveue, West Williamson, Mingo County, West Virginia. Interment followed at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, Mingo County, West Virginia. Rev. Jimmy Davis, officiated the services.
