Elijah Mikels, lifelong resident of Tippecanoe county, died Wednesday evening at 6 o'clock at the family home near South Raub, after a lingering illness.

A son of Thomas and Martha (Martin) Mikels, he was born May 14, 1867, in Tippecanoe county, and spent his entire life in farming near South Raub. As a boy he became affiliated with the Methodist Church and was an active member of the Jasper Stidham M.E. church of Taylor Station. He was also a charter member of the Plains Grange and was held in high esteem throughout the county.

On May 11, 1891, he was married to Anna Johnson, who survives with three daughters. Mrs. Otto McCay, of Taylor Station, Mrs. Jensie Wahl and Mrs. A.N. Wahl, of Chicago, also a son, Marshall Mikels, living at home; three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Lake and Mrs. Anna Bottorff, of Lafayette, and Mrs. High Fidler of Crane Station, and a brother, George Mikels, of Battle Ground.

The body was removed to the Templeton Funeral home and will be returned to the family home, where friends may call after Friday noon. Short funeral services will be conducted from the residence at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon, followed by a service at 2 o'clock from the Jasper Stidham M.E. church. Burial in Mintonye Cemetery.
