"John Davidson served in Britain's Royal Navy Air Force during World War I. He worked with dirigible engines at London's Wormwood Scrubs airfield and was also stationed in Cornwall.

Mr. Davidson later worked for more than 40 years at the General Electric Co. Euclid Lamp Plant. He was a machine maintenance mechanic and a foreman when he retired in 1964.

Mr. Davidson died Sunday at University Hospitals. He was 99.

He was born in Clydebank, Scotland. He was an apprentice fitter in Arbroath for three years before he entered the Navy.

Mr. Davidson immigrated to the United States in 1920. He lived with an aunt on E. 126th St. near St. Clair Ave. until he married Mary Brown Cargill in 1922. He worked at various manufacturing plants for 40 cents an hour until he landed the job with GE at 53 cents an hour.

He moved to Richmond Heights 33 years ago. He enjoyed woodworking, reading and music.

He was a member of the Church of the Covenant and a life member of St. Thomas Masonic Lodge in Arbroath, Scotland.

His wife died in 1986.

Mr. Davidson is survived by a son, John C. of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; daughters, Elizabeth Stassfurth of Columbus, Catherine Marshfield of Webster, N.Y., and Barbara of Richmond Heights, seven grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Church of the Covenant, 11205 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, 44106. Arrangements are by Howard W. Edwards Funeral Service of South Euclid.

Memorial contributions may be made to the hunger relief program at the church."
