Margaret was known as Meg by all the family. She was a primary school teacher, having been a Pupil Teacher which was a method of encouraging very able pupils to get a feel for the real thing and go on to further education. After she married, she became very involved in Politics. It is said that she once appeared on the same platform with Winston Churchill when he stood for Parliament in Dundee. She was very active during WWII in raising funds for the betterment of serving servicemen. At the end of the war she raised funds for famine relief in Greece and she received a commendation from King Paul of Greece and had her name placed over a hospital bed. She was a very proud Scot and had no hesitation in speaking in the Scots language to the High and Mighty who had Public School accents.
