Jonas was the son of David and Anna Rebecca Caton Buckner. He and his twin brother Jonah were the youngest born to a large family that lived in the Big Pine area of Madison County, NC.
He married Sintha C. Roberts, daughter of Sam and Katie Caldwell Roberts on Dec. 24 1910 in Big Pine when he was 26 and she was 20.
Jonas was a farmer who was described as being tall and slender with blue eyes and light hair on his WW1 Draft Registration Card.
His death certificate records that Jonas killed himself by cutting his own throat one year later to the week that his twin brother Jonah died of typhoid fever.
He left behind not only his widow but six children to grieve his loss ranging in age from 12 years to just 6 months old.
