Effie Ward, 73, daughter of Sherwood Mendenhall and Francis May Mendenhall, was born Nov. 10, 1911. She died November 24, 1984, at her home in Houston.
She was united in marriage to Charles Marion Ward December 22, 1928, and to this union five children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one daughter, Doris Fern; one brother, Claude, and three sisters, Esta, Alma, and Bertha.
Surviving are two sons, Charles Ward of Houston and Bobby Ray Ward of Willow Springs; two daughters, Lynna Steele of Houston and Freeda White of Houston, Texas; three brothers, Paul Mendenhall, of Farmington, Ernest Mendenhall, of Marthasville, and Cecil Mendenhall of West Plains; three sisters, Etta Hurst of Granite City, Ill., Lennie Dobkowski of Madison Heights, Mich., and Edith Neal of Winona; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She spent most of her lifetime in this area where she and her husband reared their family.
She was a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church.
Services were Tuesday, November 27, at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ervin Morton officiating. Burial was in the Big Creek Cemetery.
