Royalty. Lord of Cabrera and Ribera and Regent of Castile. When he was six his mother send him to Galicia, where Juan Alfonso de Albuquerque and Fernando Rodríguez de Castro had started a rebellion. Soon after his arrival he was arrested and imprisoned in the castle of Villalba, where he remained for several years. In 1304 he was released and, with the support of Fernán Rodríguez de Biedma he besieged the village of Monforte de Lemos which belonged to Fernando Rodríguez de Castro. Peace negotiations were unsuccessful and in the ensuing battle Fernando Rodriguez lost his life. As thanks for services rendered to the crown, Ferdinand IV gave his brother all the titles that had been held by Rodríguez. After his brothers death he acted as regent for his nephew Alfonso XI for several years. Due to the unrest in the country his regency was not contiguous and he had to share the power with several co-regents. His marriage to his cousin Margarita de la Cerda remained childless.
