Born February 5, 1920, in Laurens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Vessie and Myrtle (Turner) Martin.
She was first married to the late Elbert Jake Stewart and then to the late Rev. A. F. Newport.
Retired from Arkwright Mills after 20 years of service, she was a member of Fairforest Church of God.
Survivors include six daughters, Gloria S. Reid and her husband the Rev. Dennis Reid of Greenville, Anita Parrish of Savannah, GA, Ruby Speer of Dalton, GA, Glenda Haddock and Marilyn Hind, both of Spartanburg, and Norma Dickson of Atlanta, GA; three sons, Franklin Stewart and his wife Evelyn of Pickens, Jerry Stewart and his wife Marsha of Spartanburg, and Don Newport of Rock Hill; a brother, Gary Martin of Spartanburg; twenty grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by four brothers, Woodrow, Ervin, Edgar, and Donald Martin; and a granddaughter, Lisa K. Stewart.
Visitation was 6:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, September 9, 2006, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 10, 2006, at Fairforest Church of God conducted by the Rev. John H. Petty, III and the Rev. Dennis Reid. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Grandsons served as Pallbearers.
