She spent her early years in Latta, S.C., and raised her children in Norfolk. She had lived in Portsmouth since January 1992. Mrs. Evans was a member of Miles Memorial UMC and the Nellie Church Bible Class. She worked in the Sunday School Children's Department for 56 years. She was a member and past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 34, Ocean View Chapter, and a member of the past matrons and past patrons club. She was also past president of the Ocean View Garden Club and Pinewell Garden Club and attended the West End UMC while living with her son in Portsmouth.
She is survived by her children, Annie Margaret Williams and husband, Bradford A., of Norfolk, James Walsh Evans and wife, Annie S., of Norfolk and Sam LeRoy Evans and wife, Ollie Mae, of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Louise Kaylor of Rock Hill, S.C. and Margaret Davis of Chapel Hill, N.C. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held in the Rosewood Chapel of Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Morris Bennett of Miles Memorial UMC presiding. Burial will be in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens on Witchduck Road. Visitation with the family will be at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nursery Department of Miles Memorial UMC.
