The Daily Arkansas Gazette, April 4, 1922:
'Nashville, April 3-Josh White, aged 75, was instantly killed at his home at Polk Church, in Muddy Fork township, 13 miles north of Nashville, early this morning, when a shotgun he was cleaning accidentally discharged. No one was in the room with Mr. White when the gun was fired and he was dead when members of his family reached him. He was preparing to kill hawks, it is thought, as they had been numerous on his place for some time. The charge took effect in the lower bowels and ranged upward toward the heart, leading to the belief that he dropped the gun from his hand while cleaning it.'
