The Clarion Democrat - January 4, 1906

On the 8th of December [1905] Amos Nevel, one of the oldest citizens of Clarion county, living near St. Petersburg, died at 91 years and 4 months. Mr. Nevel came from the eastern part of the state to this section in 1837. He located one mile north of St. Petersburg, cleared forest and began the erection of a dwelling. The house is still standing. He was married to Miss [Frances] Shakeley. He reared a family of seven children. He was a life long member of the Reformed church. One of the characteristics of Mr. Nevel was his loyalty to early training. He passed through the period of the oil excitement and came out unscathed and his honor untarnished. He was highly respected by all who were acquainted with him and a large concourse of people were in attendance at the funeral. Rev. Mr. Kerschner, of Punxsutawney, who had been pastor to Mr. Nevel for the past ten years, was called to conduct the funeral services. He preached a very interesting and comforting sermon after which all that was mortal of Father Nevel was laid to rest in the cemetery at St. Petersburg to await the summons of the final resurrection day.

Married Frances Shakley abt 1840. He was a widower on the 1880 census.
