Raymond O. Briscoe
Raymond O. Briscoe, 95, of Nitro died February 9, 2002, at home.
Mr. Briscoe was a 61-year resident of Nitro and retired from Monsanto with 25 years’ service. He was a member of the United Steel Workers of American, a former member of Nitro Moose Lodge, a member and former president of Monsanto Sportsman Club and a member of 15th Street Church of God, Nitro.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha, sons, Gary Briscoe and Raymond Briscoe Jr., brothers, Malcolm Briscoe and James Briscoe.
Surviving: wife of 50 years, Rosemary Dolin Briscoe; children, Carrie Jo Haught of St. Albans, Margaret Ann Thomas of Orlando, Florida and Asher C. Briscoe of South Charleston; sisters, Kathryn VanDyke of Teays Valley, Opal Landers of Winfield, Claris Taylor of Teays Valley, and Ilda Morrison of Kanawha City; brother, Ralph Briscoe of Teays Valley; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.
Service was held Wednesday, February 13, 2001, at 15th Street Church of God with Pastor Rob Vanfossen officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements.
