He was born Dec. 26, 1919, in Terre Haute to George Hamilton and Leena Sanders Hamilton. His wife of 63 years, Maxine Hamilton, preceded him in death. Survivors include one son, Jim Hamilton and his wife Dawn of Terre Haute; one daughter, Cynthia Hamilton of Terre Haute; one sister, Connie Archer of Sandcut; grandchildren, Jim Hamilton Jr. and his wife Amanda, Clint Hamilton, Jada McBride and her fiancee, Lonnie Eagleson, Betsy Vermilion and Chandler Craft; great-grandchildren, James Hamilton II, Dalton Hamilton, Taryn Hamilton, Baily Hamilton, Chase Hamilton, Conner Hamilton, Celsie McBride, Caitlen McBride and Corey McBride; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; several brothers and sisters; and his faithful companion, Clancy.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a lifelong 50-year retired member of Humboldt Masonic Lodge 42, Free & Accepted Masons.
Masonic services by Humboldt Lodge 42 begins at 12:45 p.m. Monday, followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Herb officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park, with military graveside rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Visitation is 11 a.m. to services.
