The family lived in Mobridge for more than 20 years before moving to the Seattle, Wash., area. Elizabeth died in April 2006 in Riverside, Calif.
She was born March 2, 1919, in Aberdeen to Michael and Christine and early had the nickname of "Tootie." Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Mobridge where her father worked as a plumber. She attended Mobridge schools and graduated from Mobridge High School in 1938. Old friends remember her as, "...a beautiful girl and she worked behind the soda fountain at Swartz Drug Store (now The Other Side of Western Ranchers)."
Betty met her future husband, Kent Ferree, in Spokane, Wash., while working in a jewelry store. She retired from Thrifty Drug Store after 25 years. Her love of books prompted her to buy and operate a successful used book store business in Riverside for 25 years.
Survivors are her husband, Kent; daughters Diane and Paula; grandchildren, Kevin, Erin, Heather, Kelly, Evan and Molly; great-grandchild, MacKenzie; and Carl LeRoy "Baby" Patopea.
She was preceded in death by her brother Rudy; sisters, Isabelle and Lorraine; and her parents, Michael and Christine Patopea.
