A funeral service will be Thursday, Jan 11, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Byrd Cemetery. The family will speak to those attending the service at the graveside after the service.
Mr. Carter was born in Darlington, SC, the son of the late Howard, Sr. and Louise Meyers Carter. He served his country in the US Air Force and then worked for RCA as an engineer in the space program up and down the Eastern Test Range. After several years, he returned to the University of South Carolina to complete his B.S. degree in accounting. While at USC he became the head of USC Educational Television. Later he used his accounting degree to set up a private practice.
Surviving are his wife Cynthia Howie Carter, Columbia; a daughter, Louise Carter Huebner and her husband, John of Brookline, Massachusetts; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Louise Huebner.
