CHATTANOOGA, TENN.Shirley Marguerite Allcorn, 84, of Chattanooga, Tenn., began her journey with the Lord Tuesday, March 10, 2015. She was born May 27, 1930, in Pittsburgh, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Frank and Edith Todd.As the older daughter, she set the example for her brother Thomas Todd who lives in Marion. She was the loving wife for 58 years to the late Rev. David Kuhl Allcorn and devoted loving mother to a "plethora" of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Left to remember her are: son, Ronald Allcorn, of New Philadelphia, Ohio; daughters, Doris Weir, of Pittsburgh, Pa., Cathy Harbaugh and husband, Fred, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Ruth Kapely and husband, Tony, of Marion; son, William Allcorn and wife, Brynne, of Bridgeville, Pa.; daughters, Rebecca Evans, from Pittsburgh, Pa. and Gloria Allcorn and her partner, Jim Hogerty, of Naples, Fla.; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive her. She was busy! After Rev. David Kuhl Allcorn received the Lord's call to the ministry at the age of 22, Shirley could not have been better suited to take on her role as "the preacher's wife". While serving at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Pittsburgh, Pa., Shirley and David developed an extraordinary, unusual, yet vital mission ministry to an impoverished neighborhood of the North side of Pittsburgh. During this time, Shirley joined the choir and led a vital role in the music ministry. But when Shirley sang alone hairs would stand on end with her heartwarming, deep from the soul, angelic, voice singing "tributes" and making joyful noise to her Lord and Savior - and with a sense of flair!Shirley's life was full of all the Lord could provide. Shirley served as the Administrative Assistant in the Marion District from approximately 1986 to 1995. It was in 2002 to 2008, however, that Shirley also heard the Lord calling her to share God's word from the pulpit. She then became Rev. Shirley Marguerite Allcorn serving at Cross United Methodist Church in Marion. She warmed the hearts of many as she tried everything she knew how to grow an already beautiful congregation.A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Concord United Methodist Church today (Friday, March 13). Visitation will be at 10 a.m., with a Celebration of Life Service following at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Chester West, officiating. Interment will be in Concord United Methodist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cross United Methodist Church, c/o Tina Connor, 244 Reid St., Marion, NC 28752.
