Hazel Lewis Hunsche, 91, died at Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice Home on March 4 due to complications of chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
Hazel, a resident of The Hearth at Sycamore Village was born March 8, 1923 in Wolverhampton, England. She moved to Fort Wayne with her family when she was 6 months old. She graduated from North Side High School in 1941 and worked as the office manager and bookkeeper at Fort Wayne Engraving until she married. Hazel devoted her life to her family. As a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church, she served on the Altar Guild and hosted the Sunday morning breakfast club. She was a Cub Scout den mother and member of the PTA while her children were in grade school. Hazel mastered the home arts, including cooking, baking, sewing and gardening. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading and doing word puzzles.
Survivors include sons David Hunsche (Thea Sheldon) of Ely MN and Charles Hunsche of Fort Wayne IN; daughter Mary Hunsche (Cynthia Cummings) of Dartmouth MA; brother Douglas Lewis of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren Robert Hunsche (Sally) of San Diego, CA and Michael Hunsche of Fort Wayne IN; and great grandchildren: Kayla and Gavin Hunsche (San Diego, CA) and Molly, Max and Alexis Hunsche (Fort Wayne IN).
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents David and Annie Lewis, husband Henry Hunsche, sister Olive Lewis and brother Bernard Lewis.
Service is 2pm Saturday, March 7, 2015 at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, with calling from 12pm until the service, Deacon Gordon Samra officiating.
